So local councils in England are to be given the power to introduce pilot schemes where households will be charged according to how much rubbish they throw away. Please could someone tell me why this is fair on people who already pay the high cost of council tax?
The pay-as-you-throw scheme aims to encourage people to recycle!
Defra published a document that revealed that charges are included in the Climate Change Bill. Which is basically giving the power to introduce these ludicrous schemes to the local councils.
Gordon Brown is said to be unenthusiastic about the idea (behind in the polls currently, I am sure if he was not he would think this was a great idea).
MPs have warned us that apparently we could face fines of up to £180m a year from the European Commission if we do not cut the amount of waste dumped in landfill sites.
SO basically what we have here is another crisis (apparently) that the only way the government know how to resolve is to again apply a stealth tax which is essentially what this is.
I can remember a time when people held banners high saying “Time for a change”, well I hope they did not throw those banners away as I feel it is time to tell Labour to go take a hike! “Time for a change” anyone!
